Note of introduction – “New Monasticism” (whatever that means) involves the interpenetration of diverse ideas, trends, and networks. I have not attempted to include the vast literature on “emerging church,” “missional” thinking, theological and practical retrieval, community life, spirituality and spiritual formation, social justice, post-evangelical dynamics, and more. I only have tried to offer those sources which have most influenced or reflect the expressions of what I know of as “new monasticism(s).”
